One of my team mates Lindsay had been sent a can of Haggis from her family in Scotland, and because i had just come back from Florence then, I brought my team back some Italian goodies to try. We had haggis, parma ham, chianti wine jelly, 25 year old modena balsamic vinegar, san leo extra virgin olive oil (voted one of the best in italy 2007), italian pecorino, and tuscan cheese.  From the local front, we purchased some strawberries and roast pork.

We learnt the following heavenly matches:

  • aged balsamic and strawberries
  • roast pork and balsamic
  • roast pork and chianti wine jelly
  • parma ham and chianti wine jelly
  • haggis and chianti wine jelly
  • cheese and extra virgin olive oil
  • pecorino and aged balsamic

We also tried wrapping the parma ham over the strawberries and infused it with 1-2 drops of aged balsamic and that was quite interesting (in a nice way)!

At the end of the night, we were quite full with just these “finger food” varieties.  It also goes to show how we can cross match so many types of ingredients.

Wish we could do more of these tastings! :)
